Caring for your tyres
Tyre advice & maintenance
It’s so important your tyres are in good condition, for your safety, comfort and pocket. They’ll improve fuel efficiency, handling and grip on the road. If you’re ever in doubt, pop along to your nearest Honda dealership and our expert technicians will be more than happy to check them over for you. If you do need any replacing, we’ll match any like for like quotes from garages within a 10-mile radius.
Keep an eye on things
There are lots of factors that affect the ageing and wear of your tyres. From road conditions to weather, and of course, your driving style. Regular tyre checks can help ensure that you don’t encounter any serious problems.
Pressure
You should check your tyre pressure regularly, and always before heading off on a long journey. See your owner’s manual or the sticker near the driver’s side doorframe to see the correct pressure for your car.
Damage
Look out for cracks, bulges or objects lodged in the tread or sidewall of your tyres. If you spot any of these, take your car along to your local Honda dealership to be checked out.
Wear
If your tyres are wearing more on one side than the other, your wheel alignment might need adjusting. Bring your Honda in and our technicians will put it right.
Tread depths
The lower the tread, the longer your stopping distance will be – especially in wet conditions. If the tread depth is less than 3mm the tyre should be replaced in order to maintain the best performance and road safety.
The minimum legal requirement is 1.6mm across the middle 75% of the tyre at any point. Any less and you could be faced with a £2,500 fine and 3 penalty points per tyre.

WINTER TYRES
Around about the time you get out your winter coat, it’s worth thinking about your tyres too.
The cold, wet weather will have an impact on the performance of your regular tyres. You may notice reduced traction, higher fuel consumption and increased noise.
Our winter tyres are made from specially formulated compounds that stay softer in lower temperatures, meaning a better grip on the road.
Tests show they can improve stopping distances by up to 30%.
A few things to remember
Use your winter tyres from October to March, when temperatures drop to below 7°C. Don’t wear them out by using them all year round.
Store them in a dry, cool, dark place away from sunlight.
